The Probate Court is commonly thought of as the means to distribute a person’s property after death. However, there are many functions of the Court which assist the living. Matters dealing with the custody, guardianship and adoption of minors; the appointment of conservators for adults unable to manage their own affairs, applications for change of name and the processing of passport applications are all within the jurisdiction of the Probate Court. The court which is located in Town Hall is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 P.M.
