RECYCLING/TRANSFER CENTER

LOCATION: 90 Elm St adjacent to the North Haven Racquet Club

HOURS OF OPERATION:
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Until further notice a permit is NOT needed. Please show the attendant a valid photo ID with the North Haven address to utilize the Recycling Center.

The Recycling Center operates as a temporary drop-off site for North Haven residents. The containers include:

  • Mixed paper
  • Newspaper
  • Corrugated cardboard (Must be recycled. Residents can take it to the Recycling Center or place in green bin. If placing in green bin, please cut to 4’x20” approx. and tie securely for curbside pick-up.)
  • Plastic food and detergent containers coded #1-#7. Please rinse containers.
  • Glass
  • Metal cans
  • Uncontaminated waste oil (crankcase oil)

Residents may bring acceptable refuse to the Recycling Center.

  • Metal and white goods (stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers etc.)
  • Upholstered items (sofas, chairs, mattresses, box springs)
  • Tires (2 tires without rims per visit)
  • Wood & brush (cut into 3–4-foot lengths)
  • Leaves (only)
  • Grass (only)
  • Leaves, grass and plants debris mixed with small branches.

The Recycling Center does not accept:

  • Construction and demolition materials (sinks, toilets, shingles, sheetrock, plywood, windows) Please contact Central Connecticut Recycle and Transfer 203-272-4039 for disposal information
  • Car parts
  • Concrete / bricks
  • Hazardous Waste (Please call Hazwaste 203-401-2712 or visit rwater.com/hazwaste for disposal information)
  • Tree stumps with root balls

Commercial vehicles and mason dump trucks are not permitted due to space limitations. Please note that the Recycling/Transfer Center attendant is not permitted to allow exceptionally large loads of refuse to be brought into the facility and has the discretion to limit the size and number of trips. It is solely for the use of North Haven residents and is not designed to accommodate vehicles other than ¾ ton or less pick-up trucks, passenger cars, vans, or station wagons.
